Well, here I am again. I’m back in Indo to shoot the surf season. It’s my third year in a row and I’ll probably kick around here for 4 or 5 months this time. I’ve got some ideas for some new stuff and hopefully writing this blog regularly will keep things moving. For the last few weeks I haven’t really been chasing swells just hanging out getting the pad setup, making contacts and working on some new flash equipment. I have made it down to Kuta Beach on many an afternoon to find the usual ridiculous display of Indonesia’s local surfing talent. I know, nobody likes to shoot crowded beach breaks, and Halfway is as bad as it gets. However, virtually everyday at about the same time, the best of the ISC filter out into the lineup and put on a show. Regulars include Bol, Gogo, Dedy Santoso, Rahtu, Devis Ratif, Garut, Mustofa Jeksen and various super groms just killing it. Even if the surf is crap you’ll probably catch them out there having a surf, it’s their front yard, why not? Anyway, the point is, some of my best shots have come from there, sometimes in the water with an 12-24mm lens or an 85mm in an SPL waterhousing or from the beach with a 300mm. It’s safe to say, I’m the only serious photographer ever there and that’s probably for a good reason, but something keeps drawing me back a few times a week. The results I guess, and the fact that it’s a great place to experiment with your exposure settings, drag the shutter, without feeling like your risking ruining an important shot. Check out the pics from Kuta beach below.....Stay tuned.
